Ground Control use StaySafe to manage lone workers during UK storm

On Thursday 23rd February storm Doris rolled across the UK, knocking down trees, damaging buildings, sweeping up debris and knocking out power supplies. With gale force winds of up to 95mph, many faced disruption as trees blocked rail lines and thousands were left without power.

But as many struggled to travel home and others avoided venturing out at all, Ground Control’s teams across the country worked throughout the night to remove obstructions and help their clients fix faults so that services could return to normal by the morning.

Leading forestry contractor Coombes use the StaySafe app downloaded onto their smartphones to monitor employee safety via GPS and alerts.

Employees at Coombes, who work on arboricultural projects for organisations including the Forestry Commission and Crown Estates, are often required to undertake work at height and use potentially dangerous machinery. Discover how Martin & Co Property Management protect their lone workers

Martin & Co have launched the StaySafe Business App and surrounding monitoring service to provide peace of mind to their lone working agents.

The StaySafe Business App allows Martin & Co Leeds City & Leeds North to monitor their employees’ safety and GPS location through an online Hub. The employee is able to start a timed session and alert their employer through a number of features if they face any danger.

As an office belonging to the largest letting and property management franchise in the UK, Martin & Co Leeds City & Leeds North rely on their lone workers to provide their award-winning service. Prior to working with StaySafe, Martin & Co utilised a diary system to keep track of employee safety.

However, after undertaking a review of their lone working policies they concluded they needed a more robust system in order to fully meet their duty of care as an employer. Following a two-week trial of the BS8484* accredited StaySafe app and Hub, Martin & Co decided to roll out the solution across their business. Read more

Barwon Water launch StaySafe for a more robust and unified lone worker solution.

Barwon Water (Barwon Region Water Corporation) is Victoria’s largest regional urban water corporation.

It provides high-quality water, recycled water and sewerage services to more than 298,000 permanent residents. As a major employer in the region, it has approximately 300 operational, engineering, strategic planning, financial and administrative staff.

Barwon Water launched StaySafe for all their employees in September 2016 in order to monitor employee safety whilst travelling and working alone.

Barwon Water elected to have enough licences to cover the entire workforce, despite not all employees being identified as high risk. The corporation believes all staff members have the potential to work alone. This may mean staying late in the office or a single remote site visit and, as such, Barwon Water wanted to ensure it had the ability to protect and monitor every employee if required. Read more

St John New Zealand use StaySafe to protect their nationwide team of medical alarm installers

Best known for their ambulance services, charitable healthcare organisation St John New Zealand also employ a team of medical alarm representatives who install, test and monitor emergency medical alarms for 40,000 vulnerable or elderly customers. The app will be used to monitor their community outreach staff, who often work alone and in remote locations meeting with program participants. As well as providing an accurate GPS location for staff, the app also features a range of alerts which their employees can discreetly activate if they find themselves at risk. Read more

Ermha is a not-for-profit organisation focused on achieving recovery, independence and social inclusion for some of South-East Australia’s most vulnerable individuals. To provide a personal service and wider outreach, Ermha relies on a network of lone workers who support clients on a one-to-one basis. For the organisation, lone working is a great way to provide much-needed support in the community.

However, the organisation recognised the risks of working alone and wanted to keep their employees as supported as their clients. This idea led the organisation to StaySafe. StaySafe is a lone worker safety app and monitoring service that allows Ermha to help mitigate the risks associated with working alone in the community. Read more

Independent IT, telecommunications and electrical service providers, i-Systems, are using the StaySafe solution to meet their duty of care to lone working employees.

i-System engineers carry out installation and maintenance work on a flexible, project basis, sometimes working alone or in groups. Therefore, having a flexible solution that functions alongside their work pattern were crucial for the business.

Due to operating with electrics, equipment and sometimes at height, field service engineers are more at risk of workplace accidents such as electrocution and falls. This prompted i-Systems to make the switch from a manual administrating system, to the more robust and flexible StaySafe solution.

The StaySafe app enables i-Systems to monitor the location and safety status of their employees using the online hub. If an employee activates one of the app’s alerts or fails to check-in to a running session, notifications are sent via text, email and on screen via the hub. As well as a panic button facility, the StaySafe app has additional features such as discreet panic, duress pin and non-movement alerts. Read more

Canadian not-for-profit organisation the Calgary John Howard Society worked in partnership with StaySafe to launch the StaySafe app and implement tailored response procedures to meet their needs.

The Calgary John Howard Society is a community-based not-for-profit organisation that is dedicated to reducing crime and increasing community safety through preventative and restorative justice practices. The nature of the job means their employees are often required to work alone in potentially vulnerable situations. CJHS needed to implement a solution that would monitor the safety of these employees and enable them to alert their employer if they needed help. First Class Tailored Solutions use StaySafe to protect tutors

First Class Tailored Solutions were using text messages to keep track of their lone workers until they began working with StaySafe.

First Class Tailored Solutions is an external provider of alternative education solutions for students in challenging circumstances. Their tutors work in a range of environments from libraries and care homes to private residences. To keep their 40 tutors safe while working alone First Class were manually administrating a system whereby tutors would text their employer when they arrived safely at a venue. Tutor location, session times and texts had to be kept track of manually back at the office, which was taking up a huge amount of internal resources to administer.

After six months of the manual system, First Class decided to look for a more sophisticated solution that would be easier to manage and offer greater flexibility. After a review of the market they selected StaySafe. Read more

Foothills Automation and Controls turned to StaySafe to help locate their technicians in the case of an emergency

Foothills are using the StaySafe app and hub to monitor the safety of their field service technicians.

Foothills’ Technicians work on-site carrying out maintenance, servicing and construction.

Foothills provide servicing and maintenance to the oil and gas industry in Alberta, Canada. Working with a number of clients, technicians travel to various sites to carry out construction, calibration and general maintenance of control systems, facilities and equipment.

Working in the oil and gas industry means that technicians regularly enter environments where chemicals and other hazardous substances are present. As well as the usual risks such as slips, trips and falls, field service technicians face the risk of explosions, fires, burns and chemical poisoning. Read more
